Sirius-XM continues stupidity, to charge for online listening starting March 11

LOCK IN AND SAVE
On March 11th, we are upgrading our internet listening experience. On your next renewal date you will no longer get free online listening. We want to give you the opportunity to extend your existing radio subscription and will guarantee you free online listening until the end of that new term.

If you currently have a lifetime subscription you will keep free online listening for this radio plan.

Thanks for the “upgrade”. Free online listening—as in, free with a subscription to their satellite service—was the very last thing keeping me as an XM customer. An original XM customer. But once the merger with Sirius happened—though it was financially necessary—they degraded everything I liked about their service: knowledgeable DJs (fired), great playlists with new music (neglected), and a wonderful variety of stations (largely folded together into watered-down versions).

Back in 2000, I was touting satellite radio as the thing to save us from the decrepit stations left by the Telecom Act of 1996. Now Sirius-XM has lost out to internet radio, mp3 downloads, and just plain intelligence. WHY WOULD THEY CHARGE FOR INTERNET RADIO WHEN I CAN JUST GO TO ONE OF THE REMAINING GREAT STATIONS IN AMERICA NOW AND LISTEN ONLINE FOR FREE?

Ugh. Idiots.

I’m turning on iTunes right now and listening to WERS.

Sirius has not yet proven it is a going concern. Don Imus told us that when he did not jump to Sirius after leaving MSNBC. To learn more go to http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com

i agree! this is ridiculous. i’m particularly annoyed because i work at home and listen to music all day long. since the merger i’ve been listening to satellite less and less but a girl can’t survive on her own itunes alone 40 hours a week…sigh.

Agree. I’ve started using Pandora instead. It’s free and much better quality.
